"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke
I spent about 10 years in the medical device industry.
It was great.
I was working in an interesting role where I felt that I was helping patients get better outcomes.
Hanging out with surgeons, going to medical conferences and even advising these consultants around how to approach surgeries and even do the surgeries.
It paid well. I got to travel the world.
And for that I'm grateful.
But I'm not grateful for how the companies, some of which I represented, behaved and still behave.
I left the world of medical devices because of that behaviour I witnessed.
And that's the problem. The $$$$$.
We now have a medical system - yes even in NZ - where the medical community and companies servicing it care more about profit maximisation than patient outcomes.
I believe that the vast majority of people want to do good in the world. They just want to live the best life they can.
It's just that we have been sold the ruse that success is only indexed to $$$$$$. So we chase more $$$$$$ and that works for a while, until we need more $$$$$$$$$$ and it never ends.
And so slowly the good people are happy to turn a blind eye to keep on that treadmill.
If you are on that treadmill, or know someone that is and you can see it's not working anymore then I'd love to help you get off it.
